CS50's Web Programming with Python and JavaScript

84 hours
4.9(7,200 reviews)
Free

CS50's Web Programming with Python and JavaScript (CS50W) is free on two paths. Harvard publishes the whole course at cs50.harvard.edu/web, with lectures, projects, and source code open to anyone and no login needed. edX hosts the same course and adds an optional verified certificate. Our 'Go deeper' button links to the edX listing, and we earn nothing from it: we are not in edX's affiliate program. This is a follow-up to CS50x, not a first course, so you should be comfortable with basic programming and Python before starting. It goes deep on Django, JavaScript, SQL, and API design. Learn it free on Harvard's site, or use edX if you want the certificate for employers.

The course covers HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Django, SQL, and APIs across roughly 12 weeks of projects (source: cs50.harvard.edu/web).

Frequently Asked Questions

Is CS50W free?

Yes. It's free on cs50.harvard.edu/web and free to audit on edX. Only the edX verified certificate costs money.

Do I need experience first?

Yes. CS50W is a follow-up to CS50x. You should know basic programming and some Python before you start.

What does it cover?

HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Django, SQL, APIs, user interfaces, testing, and continuous integration, plus a final project you design.

Harvard's site or edX, which should I use?

Same course on both. Harvard's site is fully open with no account; edX adds a certificate and a graded track.

Do you make money if I use the 'Go deeper' link?

No. We are not in edX's affiliate program, so it pays us nothing. Harvard's free site has the exact same course.
