AWS Cloud Practitioner Essentials is Amazon's free introductory course on AWS, the largest cloud provider. You learn EC2 (servers), S3 (storage), databases, pricing, security, and AWS's core services. The course is available free through Coursera (audit mode) and AWS's training portal. After finishing, you're prepared for the AWS Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C01) certification and understand cloud fundamentals. AWS holds the largest share of the infrastructure-as-a-service market and is the most in-demand cloud platform. The main limitation: this is foundational. For real AWS work, you need deeper courses and hands-on practice.

The worldwide infrastructure-as-a-service market grew 22.5% in 2024 to $171.8 billion, and AWS took the largest slice of it at 37.7% (source: gartner.com/en/newsroom/press-releases/2025-08-06-gartner-says-worldwide-iaas-public-cloud-services-market-grew-22-point-5-percent-in-2024).

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this course free?

Yes. AWS and Coursera offer it free. The certification exam costs $99.

Do I need IT experience?

No. It's beginner-level and assumes no AWS or cloud knowledge.

Is AWS harder than Azure or Google Cloud?

They're similar in difficulty. AWS has the biggest job market. Learn AWS first, then others if needed.

Yes. AWS free tier gives you 750 hours per month of EC2, and 5GB of S3 storage free for 12 months. Excellent for practice.

After CLF-C01, what certification's next?

Solutions Architect Associate (SAA) is the next step for architects, or Developer Associate (DVA) if you're a developer.
